Spring peas

As a legume and a source of plant-based protein, peas are primarily used in animal feed. Opportunities for use in human food and as an ingredient are growing rapidly. Sown between mid-December and late March and harvested in June and July, spring peas are one of the best preceding crops for wheat and rapeseed; they help regulate diseases in the main crops and aid in weed control within the rotation. By fixing nitrogen from the air through symbiotic bacteria in its root nodules, spring peas require no nitrogen fertilizer and leave nitrogen for the next crop, as well as well-structured soil.

Growing Guide

Organized into eleven thematic chapters, this guide provides comprehensive information on growing winter and spring peas: varieties, site selection, planting, fertilization, weed control, harvesting, and storage. Covering crop rotations, market opportunities, and environmental and economic benefits, the guide highlights the advantages of this key crop, which contributes to plant protein self-sufficiency and agricultural diversification.
