A Focus on Knowledge Transfer
Clarisse Guiziou-Jaouen, Regional Communications Officer for the Northeast
This recent graduate of ENSAIA in Nancy was hired on a permanent contract after completing a one-year professional training contract. How did the institute support her in becoming more independent? Here’s her story.
“I joined Terres Inovia in September 2023 for my final-year work-study program at engineering school. From the start, I was told that the regional communications officer I would be working with was retiring soon and that his position would be open for recruitment in the coming year.
For a year, we worked as a team, and quite naturally, I gradually took on assignments completely on my own. He quickly explained and trained me on the tools and activities of regional communications, then gradually entrusted me with tasks such as managing the newsletter and social media.
On a day-to-day basis, he was able to pass on his experience to me: he accompanied me in the field to help me develop technical skills (such as recognizing diseases and crop stages) and trained me on how to use the equipment to take photos and videos. I also assisted him in preparing our most important events… “When he retired, I felt confident in my role as regional communications manager thanks to this nearly year-long mentorship, and succeeding him was a natural progression from my work-study program.”
Leveraging the expertise of older adults
Terres Inovia promotes the transfer of expertise across generations. That is why the technical institute goes beyond stereotypes and prejudices by hiring so-called “senior” candidates. Testimonial from Laurent Lhuissier, management controller.
Laurent Lhuissier had a career before joining Terres Inovia. This management controller was hired in May 2024, at age 57, after a successful career with a pharmaceutical company. “My age and my experienced background were an asset during the hiring process,” he recalls. His years of experience in an industrial group and its complex environment had, in fact, helped him develop strong adaptability skills. “I was immediately very effective in my assignments and was able to quickly adapt to how the company operates.” In the hiring process, age was therefore not a barrier: “I had the right profile and the personality sought for this position, and everything clicked right away with the team and management.”
What do the new recruits think?
As new hires, they are delighted with the warm welcome they have received and how well they have settled into our institute.
The necessary conditions were quickly put in place to create a stimulating work environment and ensure a smooth transition into the role
I was welcomed into the team very naturally and warmly, and the company’s values are embraced by every employee I’ve met
The atmosphere is pleasant and the internal procedures are clear. There’s a real sense of camaraderie, which helped me settle in quickly
