An institute and a board of directors chaired by a farmer
The grandson of a farmer, Gilles Robillard, a native of Loir-et-Cher, has been a farmer since the age of 30. His 500-hectare farm in Burgundy, in the Chablis region, grows field crops and grapes.
The president of Terres Inovia has long been involved in collective action: he is secretary general of the FDSEA and a board member of the FOP.
The Role of the Board of Directors
Gilles Robillard chairs a board of directors whose mission focuses on the challenges faced by producers on their farms and within the agricultural sector:
- Its members are exclusively professionals. They are recognized economic players in the oilseed, grain legume, and hemp sectors: producers, cooperatives, traders, seed producers, seed companies, oil mills, and more.
- The Board of Directors determines Terres Inovia’s strategic direction and approves the annual budget to implement the program of activities and investments.
The Board of Directors includes a significant number of farmers from various production regions, as well as members of storage organizations and processors. This representation allows Terres Inovia to stay attuned to on-the-ground concerns while conveying the sector’s needs to downstream stakeholders.

The Role of the Scientific Advisory Board
Terres Inovia’s strategic priorities are reviewed by a Scientific Council.
This advisory body is chaired by a prominent figure from the academic research community, ensuring its independence: Christophe David, president of Isara.
It is composed primarily of scientists from the academic research community, representatives from the oilseed, protein crop, and hemp sectors, as well as economic stakeholders in the industry.
Christophe David, Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board
What is the mission of the Scientific Council?
The Scientific Council’s role is to address three key challenges. The first is to support the institute’s overall strategy by contributing to it and challenging it during our meetings. The second challenge is to address specific issues of interest to the institute, such as how to approach the topic of climate change and the diversification of cropping systems. Finally, the third challenge is to foster forward-looking and collaborative thinking to ensure meaningful interactions that benefit the agricultural sector and its supply chains.
In concrete terms, how does it help Terres Inovia?
It is there to drive the institute’s inquiries. It will be able to assist Terres Inovia by addressing a key objective: identifying the concrete and real-world impact of proposed solutions and benchmarks on the agricultural sector to ensure a protein transition and the consolidation of crops supported by the institute
How can it help the institute define its research priorities?
The Scientific Council can also advise Terres Inovia on how to assert its positioning, which is characterized by strong roots in the agricultural sector as well as within the supply chains. The significant emphasis placed, for example, on research into grain legumes demonstrates that Terres Inovia must consolidate its status as an institute dedicated to crop diversification.
