Rapeseed

Rapeseed is an oilseed crop, a plant rich in oil as well as plant proteins, with a variety of uses: human and animal feed, plant-based chemicals, and a source of renewable energy. Sown in late summer and harvested in July, rapeseed covers the soil for about 300 days, thereby reducing erosion. It breaks the disease cycle of cereals and weeds in crop rotation, absorbs nitrogen in the fall, improves soil organic matter, and is a nectar-producing plant that attracts pollinating insects, particularly bees. Establishment is a key stage of cultivation, especially for controlling pests (flea beetles, weevils).
