Winter field bean

As a legume and source of plant protein, the field pea is primarily used in animal feed but also in human food. Sown in November–December and harvested in July, the winter field pea serves as a rotation crop that boosts yields, reduces nitrogen requirements for the subsequent wheat crop, and improves protein content. It helps reduce disease and weed pressure in the rotation and is efficient in terms of water and inputs. While resistant to Aphanomyces, the field pea is susceptible to the pea weevil. It can be grown in clayey and stony soils. Capable of suppressing weeds, the winter field pea is well-suited to organic farming.

Growing Guides

Twelve chapters provide a comprehensive guide to growing field beans and organic field beans: varieties, site selection, planting, irrigation, fertilization, weed control, harvesting, and storage. The guides highlight the benefits of growing fava beans and provide an overview of methods for controlling pests and diseases that affect the crop. Finally, the guides list the major events in the industry.
