The Issues

France relies heavily on imports of plant-based proteins, particularly soy. Today, a major transition of our agricultural systems is crucial to meet the needs of the population, reduce the carbon footprint of our agriculture by 2050, and strengthen national protein sovereignty. This aligns with the France Relance 2030 priority of “Healthy, sustainable, and traceable food.”

Promoting and developing this sovereignty requires a coordinated evolution of agricultural sectors, particularly through support for change and training for stakeholders across the entire supply chain, equipping them with the necessary skills to support more self-sufficient systems.

Since current training on protein sovereignty is deemed insufficient, it is essential today to prepare learners for these challenges to accelerate the transition.

The objectives

The project proposes the creation of a common foundation comprising 52 educational building blocks, thereby offering concrete solutions for agricultural education and related fields. This will promote flexibility in educational pathways through a comprehensive and innovative approach aimed at:

• Integrate protein sovereignty into agricultural curricula and offer continuing education to raise awareness and train students and professionals on the associated challenges and practices.
•    Adopt innovative and interactive teaching methods, incorporating assessment systems and digital tools, aimed at facilitating the acquisition of skills related to protein sovereignty.
• Utilize “serious games,” entrepreneurial approaches, case studies co-developed with stakeholders in the field and the digital sector, and other educational resources to energize learning and enhance appeal.
•    Promote lifelong learning so that everyone can acquire and update their knowledge and skills.
• Establish partnerships between education and the professional sector to offer training aligned with the skills required by tomorrow’s market.
•    Enhance the appeal of professions related to protein sovereignty by promoting these sectors and highlighting the career opportunities and importance of this field.
• Strengthen ties with research and innovation to enrich training programs with up-to-date knowledge derived from research projects on plant proteins and their integration into the industry.

Expected results

• Development of 52 educational modules, 16 of which will incorporate digital technology, and 28 continuing education courses on the topic of protein sovereignty.
• 1,500 participants in initial training programs, 10,000 learners in continuing education programs, and 5,000 participants in knowledge-sharing initiatives.
•    Rollout of training modules in 400 agricultural high schools and 10 engineering schools.
• Creation of 12,000 targeted jobs.
•    Increase in legume acreage by 600,000 ha by 2030 for human consumption and maintenance of 195,000 livestock and mixed crop-livestock farms.
