They talk about it
After a DUT in biological engineering (agronomy option) and an agronomy engineering school, Lionel Thierry manages the Bretenière station, which employs 4 experimentation technicians.
"After a scientific baccalaureate, I passed a DUT in biological engineering with an agronomy option, then entered an agricultural engineering school (ENITA Clermont-Ferrand).
Part of my job involves management, as the station has 4 experimentation technicians, not counting seasonal workers. Every week, we work together to plan the station's activities. As station manager, I also have to draw up and monitor the budget for the coming year, based on the expected needs of the trials. Of course, a large part of my work takes place in the field, with my hands in the soil! I have my own trials to monitor and I also help the technicians, as we do field work as a team. I'm also involved in drone flights, as I have my pilot's license. I'm also on hand to help farmers set up trials and maintain links with our networks. At my level, I try to contribute to the improvement of internal operations, methods and tools.
Above all, this job is about finding solutions to real problems and being out in the field! There's no routine and combining field work with scientific observations is very interesting. As station manager, I also appreciate having a global vision of the human and material resources required for our activity. I have a strong taste for the field, innovation and contact with farmers".
