Description
Diagnose soil structure to secure crop establishment.
Soil structure is a major determinant of crop success. Soil compaction, degradation or insufficient regeneration can limit the agronomic potential of plots over the long term. Terres Inovia's spade test is a simple, operational tool for assessing soil structure and guiding tillage decisions, particularly to secure rapeseed establishment. This training course, combining technical input and practical experience in the field, enables participants to acquire a rigorous method for observing, analyzing and interpreting soil structure, and formulating well-argued agronomic advice.
Program:
1/ Soil fertility and structure (classroom)
- Components of soil fertility: physical, chemical, biological
- Role of organic matter
- Dynamics of soil structure evolution :
- Settling caused by farm machinery
- Effects of climate
- Regeneration through tillage and biological activity
2/ Crop requirements and diagnostic methods (classroom)
- Soil structure requirements of oilseed and protein crops
- Presentation of the main soil structure characterization methods:
- Terres Inovia spade test
- Cultural profile
- 3D mini-profile
3/ Implementation of the Terres Inovia spade test (field)
- Methodology for describing soil structure
- Performing the Terres Inovia spade test
- Reading and interpretation of results
- Application to a concrete case of rapeseed planting
- Drawing up technical advice for soil cultivation
Objectifs de la formation
At the end of the course, participants will be able to :
-
Identify the components of soil fertility and understand the role of soil structure
-
Understand the dynamics of soil structure evolution (compaction, degradation, regeneration)
-
Define crop requirements in terms of soil structure, particularly for oilseed and protein crop planting.
-
Implement various soil structure diagnostic methods
-
