Sunflower irrigation: experience of a farmer in Poitou-Charentes
A survey of irrigators was proposed as part of the CAP Protéines study, water to secure sunflower yields. This survey questions the current decision rules of farmers irrigating sunflower. A total of 48 farmers responded to this survey, spread over 14 departments. The former Poitou-Charentes region is strongly represented with 32 respondents out of 48. The Centre-Val de Loire, Occitanie and Pays de la Loire regions are also represented in the survey.

The soya consumed by French livestock farms comes mainly from exports or from the South-West. The high demand in the Grand-Ouest raises questions about the need to produce local soya to achieve protein autonomy in livestock farming. Furthermore, the north-west of France is well endowed with agri-food companies, some of which have a strong demand for French soya. There is interest in the creation and development of seed legumes (of which soya is one) for human consumption.
