A unifying general assembly for FILEG

03 Apr 2023

On March 14, nearly 70 people gathered at the Lycée agricole de Castelnaudary for the general meeting of FILEG. Since 2017, Terres Inovia has been carrying this project to create a seed legume industry in Occitania.

Born in 2017, FILEG aims to create a regional and federative project of a seed legume sector in Occitania that responds to the major challenges of food and agroecological transitions.

A study on the market of collective catering and an event around pulses to come

An association under the law of 1901 was created in February 2022, bringing together the 80 partners of the project, whether they are producers, processors and distributors of animal and human food.

To mark its first year of legal existence, it organized a general assembly on March 14, in Paris. This meeting allowed to retrace the actions already carried out in a few months and those to come. It is thus planned, in particular, the realization of a territorial study of the market of the collective restoration, the organization of an event of promotion of the leguminous plants within the commercial restoration, the launching of a study of identification of the tools of storage, sorting and transformation.
Pulses seeds, what are the stakes for the actors of the sector in Occitania?

At the end of the general assembly, a round-table discussion, open to the public, was proposed on the theme "Pulses seeds, what are the stakes for the actors of the sector in Occitania?", animated by Claire Barbet-Massin, from Terres Inovia.

Recalling the stakes of legume production and consumption, Muriel Gineste, sociologist at the Centre de l'Innovation sur l'Alimentation (CISALI), set the scene, stating that "n𝑜𝑢𝑠 𝑝𝑜𝑢𝑣𝑜𝑛𝑠 𝑎𝑔𝑖𝑟 𝑠𝑢𝑟 𝑙'𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑟𝑎𝑔𝑒 𝑑𝑒𝑠 𝑙𝑒́𝑔𝑢𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑢𝑠𝑒𝑠 𝑑𝑎𝑛𝑠 𝑙𝑒 𝑝𝑎𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑚𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑒 𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑖𝑟𝑒, 𝑣𝑒́𝑔𝑒́𝑡𝑎𝑙 𝑒𝑡 𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑚𝑎𝑙, 𝑑𝑒 𝑙𝑎 𝑟𝑒́𝑔𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑂𝑐𝑐𝑖𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑒."

All the speakers expressed the need and their expectations for the varietal selection of legumes, whether downstream with Mathieu Gantier (Nutrition & Santé) for human food or with Nadine Lambret (Fermes de Figeac) for animal feed, but also upstream with Christophe Candel (Qualisol).

A video also featured a farmer, David Vincent, with Quentin Lambert, development engineer at Terres Inovia.

Difficulties and possible levers

The breeders, with Clémence de Chabot (Semences de Provence), Laurent Gervais (RAGT) as well as those present via videos broadcasted during the round table (Agri-Obtention and Lidea) reassured by presenting their progress. However, they also reminded us of their constraints linked to the long time frame of varietal selection as well as to agronomic difficulties, particularly linked to climate change.

All of these difficulties, and the possible levers, were heard by the public authorities. Laurent Baccella, from the DRAAF Occitanie, reminded the audience of the existing regional and national mechanisms to support the implementation of solutions.

Finally, in the words of Antoine Henrion, from Terres Univia, the main witness of this round table, "l𝑎 𝑑𝑦𝑛𝑎𝑚𝑖𝑞𝑢𝑒 𝑒𝑡 𝑙𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑔𝑟𝑒̀𝑠 is 𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑒 𝑙𝑎 𝑟𝑒́𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑒𝑡 𝑙'𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑒 𝑑𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑒𝑢𝑟𝑠 𝑑𝑒 𝑙𝑎 𝑟𝑒𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑐ℎ𝑒 𝑗𝑢𝑠𝑞𝑢'𝑎𝑢 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑜𝑚𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑢𝑟, 𝑒𝑛 𝑝𝑎𝑠𝑠𝑎𝑛𝑡 𝑝𝑎𝑟 𝑙𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑒𝑢𝑟𝑠 𝑑𝑒 𝑙𝑎 𝑓𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑒̀𝑟𝑒, 𝑑𝑜𝑛𝑡 𝑣𝑜𝑢𝑠 𝑟𝑒𝑝𝑟𝑒́𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑠! "

To conclude the day, the DRAAF Occitanie, the Occitanie Region and the Adour-Garonne Water Agency recalled their support for the development of legumes and FILEG's actions to address major societal issues.
