FIL releases its call for projects 2023
The IDF (Innovation Fund for the Competitiveness of Pulses Production) call for projects is intended to finance applied collaborative research projects, the aim of which is to improve the competitiveness of soybean, pea, faba bean, lupin, lentil and chickpea crops in cropping systems and to secure the supply of animal and human food manufacturers
The priority themes for this year 2023 are the following:
1. Improving the quality of seeds to meet the needs of the downstream sector while improving the value of these crops for farmers. On this theme, project leaders are strongly encouraged to involve actors of the agricultural downstream.
o Develop varieties that meet the objectives of improving quality, protein yield, limiting anti-nutritional factors, palatability, etc.
o To develop and characterize plant material resulting from an extension of genetic resources or from the exploitation of knowledge acquired on other species.
2. Improvement of yield regularity in the face of biotic and abiotic stresses.
o Development of pea varieties more resistant to diseases and faba beans resistant to bruchids in a context of phytosanitary impasse.
3. Improvement of techniques to accelerate and amplify the selection process:
o To develop and validate modern selection methods and tools allowing a productivity gain in the selection process.
o In a context of urgency to accelerate the competitiveness of the legume sector, particular attention will be given to projects dealing with (i) the evaluation of priorities for the selection of legume varieties with regard to the necessary means and the biological or agronomic solutions available and (ii) the potential of recent selection techniques including New Breeding Technology to accelerate the genetics of small legume crops
