Back to the event : Nitrogen, this precious resource, how to gain autonomy and what perspectives for cropping systems?

21 Feb 2023

The Regional Agronomic Programme for the Agroecological Transition in the Grand Est (PARTAGE), responded to this problem during its restitution symposium. This was enough to highlight 4 years of work to 180 people !

colloque PEI PARTAGE

The project, developed with 21 partners from the region, is under the guidance of the Grand Est Regional Chamber of Agriculture as part of the call for projects for the European Innovation Partnership (EIP), and is supported by the European FEADER funds and the Grand Est Region.
Various themes were addressed to respond to the problems of agricultural actors.

Through a round table and multiple interventions, the participants of the conference attended exchanges on :

  • An analysis of the geopolitical and economic context which leads to rethink nitrogen nutrition
  • Presentation of the PEI PARTAGE and the different areas of work to complete the nitrogen cycle on a territorial scale (presentation video)
  • Management of nitrogen fertilisation by limiting losses to the environment through integral control of wheat fertilisation and nitrogen volatilisation in different pedoclimatic contexts
  • Organic fertilisation of grasslands through the levers tested and evaluated in Wallonia (Belgium) to limit nitrogen losses by volatilisation
  • The implementation of new methods of nitrogen fertilisation of wheat in Germany with CULTAN and inhibitors
  • Renewable nitrogen with legumes: levers for exploiting their benefits in rotations
  • Processing plant proteins for human consumption
  • Protein for organic nitrogen: developing cereal farmer-breeder exchanges
  • Territorial management of organic products: Modelling with MAELIA to support collective approaches and optimise flows
  • The interest for territories of fertilizing materials of residual origin, return of experience in Plaine de Versailles
  • Support for changes in practices: presentation of the approach and tools used by PEI PARTAGE advisors
  • Low-carbon transition: "nitrogen" levers have their role to play, return on the accompaniment of mixed farming-breeders and lessons learned from the PEI CarbonThink

These exchanges were punctuated by testimonies from farmers and project advisors (view the thematic videos here).

The day was concluded by a cross-border opening and promising future prospects on the theme because indeed, the work carried out will not stop there and is continued within the framework of the PEI emergence ORFEA from January 1, 2023.
