Back to the 29th Carrefour de la sélection du colza
Back to the 29th Carrefour de la sélection du colza
The 29th Carrefour de la sélection colza took place on January 26 and 27, 2023 in Bruz (Ille-et-Vilaine), on the premises of the Avril Group. Organized for the first time by SELEOPRO, it gathered this year more than 90 participants from the public research sector (INRAE, Institut Agro Rennes-Angers, AgroParisTech, University of Nantes), GEVES, the industry and private rapeseed breeders, happy to meet for this event.
The previous editions of the Carrefour de la sélection colza were organized by the PROMOSOL association, whose objectives were to support work on oilseed plant breeding (rapeseed and sunflower) and to encourage actions for the dissemination of scientific progress. As PROMOSOL will soon be dissolved, SELEOPRO (see box) has taken over the running of this annual meeting.
This year, the meeting was co-hosted by Martine Leflon, head of the genetics and crop protection department at Terres Inovia and leader of the SELEOPRO rapeseed commission, and Xavier Pinochet, an expert in scientific strategies.
Discussions on plant and oilseed rape improvement
The rapeseed meeting aims first of all to share the progress of the projects financed by Promosol and SELEOPRO. More broadly, it is an opportunity to discuss work carried out on oilseed rape that may be of interest for breeding.
For this edition, many topics were discussed in connection with current projects and two themes were particularly highlighted: the management of insect pests of oilseed rape, especially flea beetles, and the control of stunt beetles.
The worrying subject of the management of insects in rapeseed had indeed a large place with the presentation of various works starting on this subject within the framework of the Action Plan to get rid of phosmet.
In addition, a session was dedicated to the stalked broomrape, with the restitution of different actions conducted by INRAE, the University of Nantes, Terres Inovia and breeders for the last ten years in terms of rapeseed breeding and interaction between the plant, the broomrape and the microbiota.
Finally, a workshop, led by Julie Gombert (GEVES), was an opportunity to reflect together on the stability of rapeseed yields in the trial networks.
Several experts from Terres Inovia took part in the meeting. Céline Robert, in charge of crop pests and auxiliary fauna studies, and Laurine Brillault, project manager for the phosmet release plan, presented the actions carried out in the framework of this plan. Christophe Jestin, researcher in genetics and crop protection, presented the context of broomrape. Finally, Elodie Tourton gave a preview of the results of the practical rapeseed survey, carried out every two years by Terres Inovia.
The 29th Crossroads of rapeseed breeding was rich and dense, with, in particular, two key subjects: the management of rapeseed pests and the stalked broomrape.
SELEOPRO, a new support system for oilseed research
Created in 2022, SELEOPRO promotes all genetic improvement actions and selection methodologies in the field of oilseed rape and sunflower species.
The objective is to improve their performance and competitiveness within the framework of sustainable agriculture, meeting the qualitative needs of the value markets and adapted to climate change. SELEOPRO takes over from two previous schemes, the FSRSO (Fonds de soutien à la recherche semencière oléagineuse) and PROMOSOL.
SELEOPRO provides a forum for exchanges between the various players in the sector and public and private research organizations, and facilitates the production and dissemination of information.
It has three main activities :
- the financial support to seed research projects for academic research and/or private research
- the animation of the seed research community
- the establishment of strategic research axes for the French rapeseed and sunflower industry.
A first call for projects was launched in 2022, a second will be launched on February 15, 2023.
This device is financed by SOFIPROTEOL on behalf of the Fonds d'Actions Stratégiques des Oléagineux et Protéagineux (FASO), Terres Univia, Terres Inovia and the Union Française des Semenciers. It is managed by SOFIPROTEOL and animated by Terres Inovia.
