Phosmet Exit Action Plan: Official launch of the RESALT project

17 Feb 2023

RESALT, which aims to provide resources for the construction of flea beetle resistant varieties, was launched on January 25, at Le Rheu (35). This project, coordinated by INRAE and in which Terres Inovia collaborates, is part of the Phosmet Exit Action Plan.

Faced with the pressure of autumn pests and the withdrawal of phosmet from the market in 2022, an action plan has been set up by the public authorities, in partnership with the oilseed sector, entitled Phosmet Exit Action Plan. At its launch, 8 projects were initiated by development actors, private companies and academic research.

Among them, the RESALT project - Genetic resistance as a lever for the control of winter flea beetles - aims at identifying genetic and biochemical resistance mechanisms to flea beetles in rapeseed and related species, for the construction of resistant varieties.
Thirteen partners involved

The strength of the RESALT project is the complementarity of the players involved.

The technical institute Terres Inovia is involved in the development of phenotyping tools in the field and under controlled conditions to better understand resistance mechanisms.

The research company Innolea, as well as 10 breeders (BASF, BAYER, CORTEVA, DSV, KWS, LIDEA, LIMAGRAIN, MAS SEEDS, NPZ, RAGT) will evaluate the variability of elite rapeseed varieties against flea beetles.

Finally, public research (INRAE, UMR IGEPP) will identify resistance factors in the diversity of rapeseed parental species with a view to introgression into rapeseed.

Visit of an experimental plot on the program of the RESALT launch meeting

During this kick-off meeting, 33 people involved in the 13 partner structures of the project met at INRAE in Le Rheu (35), as well as a dozen people from a distance.

The day's program included a visit to an experimental plot and a presentation of the project's objectives, both scientific and administrative. This time of exchange was essential to meet and encourage discussions between the partners, demonstrating the importance of the expectations of all stakeholders.
