Terres Inovia training courses for farmers

21 Dec 2023

Farmers are constantly adapting their practices to meet the expectations of consumers and players in the food chain. Terres Inovia offers innovative continuing training courses to help them make these changes and provide them with the necessary knowledge and know-how.

Oilseeds (rapeseed, sunflower, soya, hemp, linseed, camelina) and protein crops (peas, field beans, chickpeas, lentils, lupins) are crops that can be used to diversify crop rotations. In order to meet growing market demand, it is essential to train all those involved in farming to understand and master the specific technical itineraries for these crops, so as to guarantee the quality and profitability of production.

Terres Inovia's mission is to support the agricultural sector as a whole, and in particular farmers who have to make the transition and master new practices in ever shorter timescales. The training topics offered by the technical institute include crop management (technical itineraries, diseases, pests, etc.), soil management (spade test, fertilisation), production quality, processing (oil) and the regulations in force in the sector.

From face-to-face to distance learning

One of the advantages of Terres Inovia's training courses is the presence of crop experts throughout mainland France and the opportunity for farmers to attend face-to-face training courses close to their farms.

However, the institute has adapted the training methods to make them more flexible, and it is now possible to take part remotely (two-hour slots). Two training courses have already proved popular: setting up an edible oil production unit; diversification: mastering lupin, lentil, chickpea, linseed and hemp crops (see box at the bottom of the page).

Coverage of costs

Two training funds share the costs of agricultural training: Ocapiat for salaried agricultural workers (advisers, technicians, etc.) and Vivea for non-salaried agricultural workers (farmers who are already established).

Terres Inovia helps farmers and groups of farmers to apply for Vivea funding: the institute takes care of the administrative formalities to minimise the outlay for farmers and encourage them to take part in training. Funding ranges from €25 to €48 per hour, including tax, with a ceiling of €3,000 per farmer per year. And if you're looking for funding, you need to think ahead! Registrations must be made at least one month before the desired training date.

Although Qualiopi certification is not compulsory to obtain funding from Vivea, it is nevertheless highly recommended. And that's the choice Terres Inovia has made since 2021! This has made it possible to strengthen the training process, pay greater attention to all audiences (people with reduced mobility, for example), formalise services (quizzes, questionnaires, etc.) and provide financial support for sessions.

Anticipating needs

Collecting training needs or proposing new topics based on trends in the sector, organising the offer with the training organisation, are all assets that farmers' groups (GAB, GIEE...) represent for training organisations. For this reason, Terres Inovia is offering them a special rate to enable them to bring their members together around a subject and to minimise the remaining costs following an application for Vivea funding.

To go further in anticipating needs, Terres Inovia coordinated the Formid'able Protéines diagnosis, carried out as part of the AMI skills and professions of the future of France 2030, with nine other members. An inventory of existing and missing training courses was drawn up, with a view to developing skills and agricultural professions to meet the challenges of agro-ecological transition and protein sovereignty. To achieve this, a multi-partner project - including the education sector - is currently being developed to roll out the actions and systems needed to rethink the agricultural training of the future.

Register on time!

Farmers and farming groups, don't forget to sign up for the next two training courses dedicated to you!

  •     Diversification: mastering lupin, lentil, chickpea, linseed and hemp crops: from 5 January to 2 February 2024.
  •     Creation of an edible oil production workshop: from 24 to 28 June 2024.

In 2024, following on from its interest in managing lower inputs and preserving biodiversity, the institute will also be offering a new training course focusing on the value of auxiliary insects in arable farming (session in May 2024 - enrolment deadline 31 March 2024).
