Bird and small game damage: Terres Inovia and Chambers of Agriculture France cooperate to streamline declarations

28 Mar 2023

Bird damage to crops is considered by producers as a major technical and economic problem. Chambres d'Agriculture France proposes a national declaration tool. Terres Inovia joins this initiative.

Bird damage to crops is considered by producers as a major technical and economic problem. However, the symposium on this topic co-organised by Terres Inovia last November highlighted the weakness of the available data.

This hinders research from taking into account and understanding the phenomenon. The departmental hunting and wildlife commissions may also lack the information needed to rule on "ESOD" classifications authorising shooting or trapping outside the hunting season.

Two shared tools

Although numerous mechanisms exist at the departmental level, they remain scattered and not always well known by farmers. Faced with this situation, Chambers of Agriculture France is proposing a national multi-field declaration tool, which currently covers 43 departments.

Terres Inovia has decided to join this initiative by directing declarants to the chambers' tool in the departments covered. The Terres Inovia tool will remain open to departments not covered and all data will be shared for research and development purposes.
