Conference: Terres Inovia on the lookout for innovative imaging techniques

13 Jan 2022

The evolution of imaging technologies, more and more innovative, must be closely observed. It allows to improve crop monitoring in real time, with ever more accurate images. This is why Terres Inovia follows the work of the Helio-SPIR network in particular.

This association is an international pole of competence in the field of near infrared spectroscopy, gathering scientists and users of these techniques. Its vocation is to create a network between the different research teams and equipment manufacturers, in France and internationally.
Each year, it organizes a conference on research and innovation in the field of near infrared spectroscopy and related disciplines, such as chemometrics, deep learning and hyperspectral imaging.
Water stress tests and insect detection on the program

Sylvain Tréguier, R&D manager at Terres Inovia's physico-chemical analysis laboratory, attended the association's 22nd meeting, which took place on November 24 and 25, 2021 at Agropolis, Montpellier.
During this edition, the presentations were oriented around phenotyping, and thus the development of near-infrared methods as alternatives to conventional phenotyping methods. "The research topics were as diverse as insect detection in crop samples, water stress tests for maize variety selection, semolina yield and Fusarium fungal load in durum wheat grain...", says Sylvain Tréguier.
A special session, called "Place aux jeunes!", allowed students in training and thesis to promote their research projects. Among the topics presented were, for example, the detection of Fusarium head blight in wheat, the quantification of isoflavones in whole soybeans, and the discrimination of plant species in the forests of Madagascar based on their wood.

Between the presentations, round tables were organized around different theoretical topics, in order to exchange and deepen knowledge in certain disciplines. An oral report was made for each round table, allowing everyone to benefit from each topic.

The next edition will take place in Oniris, Nantes in June 2022.

The complete program of presentations and invited speakers is available on the event website.
