Conservation Agriculture: a partnership with a youtuber for the Institute

10 Jan 2022

Terres Inovia has produced a video in partnership with Marc Ponroy, a farmer in Blonville-sur-mer (Calvados), to disseminate his recommendations on soil fertility and the destruction of plant cover, and more generally on conservation agriculture.

The 23-year-old farmer, who grows 18 hectares of spring beans, shares his daily life as a farmer, his difficulties and his practices on a YouTube channel called "Marc vers l'agriculture de conservation" (Marc towards conservation agriculture), which has more than 50,000 subscribers.

Successful destruction of the canopy

The video broadcast since 8 January features a constructive exchange between Matthieu Loos, development engineer, and Marc Ponroy. For 25 minutes, they discuss the best agricultural practices adapted to Marc's plot of land in order to achieve the best possible destruction of his plant cover before the upcoming planting of a spring bean.

For this, a structural analysis of the soil was carried out, with a demonstration including a spade test. Finally, Matthieu gave some advice that could be implemented (or not) by the farmer in the weeks to come, depending on opportunities. Less than two days after its broadcast, the video had already reached more than 54,000 views.

These personalised recommendations for improving practices and increasing crop competitiveness are also part of the Cap Agronomie approach launched by Terres Inovia. The aim is to put the farmer at the centre of the system and to support him in making strategic and tactical decisions by training advisors in these methods.
