Rapeseed: the SELEOPRO Crossroads on breeding provides an update on research

01 Feb 2024

The Carrefour de la Sélection du Colza SELEOPRO organised by Terres Inovia with the support of Sofiprotéol was held on 25 and 26 January, with a record attendance of 106 people.

For the 2nd year running, the event was hosted by Avril at its Bruz (35) site, and brought together a large number of representatives of rapeseed breeders operating in France, as well as public research, notably fromInrae and the universities of Caen and Nantes.

Objectives: share a vision of the context and challenges facing the industry and scientific advances
The challenges of the future were shared by the industry with the research community in dedicated sessions, in particular :
A presentation on the role of rapeseed in the energy transition and protein sovereignty , by Isabelle Lemarié (Avril)
Raphaëlle Girerd (Sofiprotéol) and Nina Rabourdin (Terres Inovia) presented a study on the impact of climate change on rapeseed growing in France.
Topics relating to the assessment of varieties for nitrogen efficiency at registration and the implementation of CEPP (phytosanitary savings certificate) sheets for oilseed rape were also discussed by Julie Gombert and Anne-Sophie Poisson (GEVES) and Xavier Pinochet (Terres Inovia).

And finally, as always at the heart of these Carrefours, the results of research work, some of which is financially supported by SELEOPRO, were shared, with :

A presentation by Muriel Valantin Morison (INRAE) on the definition of technical itineraries for oilseed rape for the agro-ecological transition, taking up the discussions and work carried out on the subject over the last ten years,
The presentation of work onthe genetic determinants of germination and early development in oilseed rape, by Marianne Laurençon, a doctoral student at Inrae IGEPP. This work is part of the NAVIG project,
A presentation of the progress made in the SILICOL project, aimed at developing models to simulate the rapeseed-legume association, by Céline Richard-Molard (Inrae ECOSYS) and Solen Farra, a doctoral student in this unit,
The presentation by Antoine Gravot (Inrae IGEPP) of the initial results obtained in the large-scale Resalt project, aimed at providing methods and knowledge for developing winter flea beetle-resistant oilseed rape varieties,

A presentation by Sophie Brunel-Muguet (University of Nantes, UMR EVA) on the effect of thermal stress on the yield and quality of oilseed rape seeds, with particular emphasis on the memory effect linked to recurrent stress,
The presentation by Pierre Gilles Vogt (Limagrain Europe) of over 10 years' work by breeders in the PRINTIVER programmes, aimed at mobilising the genetic diversity of spring-origin rapeseed to develop high-performance winter rapeseed hybrids,
Lastly, information provided by Sophie Cesbron (Inrae IRHS) on the presence of bacterial blight in oilseed rape in western France and current knowledge of this disease.
To mark the 30th anniversary of the Carrefours, a festive evening was organised to strengthen the links between the members of this very active community.
